Itinerary
Day 1
We travel to Auckland Airport for our short but very scenic flight across the Hauraki Gulf to Great Barrier Island. The afternoon is free for you to begin your discovery of this remote island paradise.
Day 2
Full day tour. We travel up the east coast to Awana Beach and enjoy a short (optional) beach walk before having our picnic lunch beside the Awana Estuary. We continue up through the central forest area with views of Windy Canyon and Rakitu Island then down through Okiwi to Port Fitzroy Harbour and Glenfern Sanctuary (Fitzroy House). We finish the day with a coastal cruise on board the Sundancer and head back down the western side of the island through the Man O’War Passage and the ‘Broken Islands’ to Whangaparapara Harbour.
Day 3
This morning, we enjoy an optional walk along the famous Medlands Beach, visit the Milk, Honey & Grain Museum, the Art Gallery and stop for lunch at the Claris Texas Café. If the weather permits, we have the opportunity to ride the Crazyhorse chopper style trike before heading back to the lodge.
Day 4
After breakfast, we head off to the Hot Springs Track to see the stunning ‘Great Barrier Island Nikau Palm’ grove. We call into Okupu Beach to check out the ancient Pohutukawa trees and tour around to the ‘Forgotten Wharf’ at Blind Bay. We explore the Tryphena area and visit the Shoal Bay Pottery before checking in for our flight back to Auckland.
Please note, the order of the itinerary may change to suit local arrangements.
